Remember the freedom of growing up on your bike, heading to your friend's house with wings on your heels and the wind in your hair? It's not so easy for kids to do that today, especially for those living in a busy city. Wheel Kids Bicycle Club is a place to have that experience - to be that kid on a bike - to go places under one's own power - to be free.

Our goal is to get your child excited about cycling and to begin a life-long journey of health and fitness. Wheel Kids riders will learn new skills to make them better and safer cyclists. They'll learn how to keep their bikes in good shape. And they'll explore the Bay Area on their bikes: learning, discovering and - mostly - having fun!
We're passionate about getting kids to use their bikes as vehicles. Not just for getting around, but vehicles for experiential understanding* - being outside exploring, learning, growing. To promote this we strive to:
-
teach safe riding skills & habits
-
build confidence and self-esteem
-
improve cycling skills and cycling etiquette
-
encourage kids to consider their bikes as viable means of transportation
-
and have FUN in a unique activity-oriented camp experience.
Our rides aren't too hard or too long, but we do try to provide a challenge for our participants - perhaps it's getting to the top of a particular climb, riding a little faster or a little slower or on a different surface, overcoming fears and tentativeness, or just thinking about things in a new way. No matter what we're doing, whether it's on the bike or off, with a coach to rider ratio of 1:7 or less there will always be adult supervision and support for your child.
* we wish we'd invented the phrase, but can't claim it as our own. See this brief article on bicycling and urban design to learn more.
